It feels like every major carmaker has jumped into the electric game over the past few years. From Ford’s Lightning to Chevy’s Bolt, EVs are no longer just a Tesla thing. But when it comes to luxury sports cars, some brands have been slower to make the shift.
Chevrolet made its move with the Corvette E-Ray, a hybrid that pairs a classic V8 engine with an electric motor. Now Ferrari is finally stepping into the EV world with its upcoming Ferrari Elettrica, and we just got a closer look at what’s under the hood.
Well, kind of. Ferrari didn’t actually show the full car at its special event this week. Instead, they gave journalists a look at the guts of the machine including the battery pack, motor, powertrain, and chassis, along with some details about what to expect when the car finally makes its debut.
Here’s what we know: the Elettrica is expected to hit a top speed of 193 MPH and will reportedly go up to 329 miles on a single charge. That range puts it right up there with some of the top-performing EVs already on the market.
Ferrari is also doing something a little different. Instead of going the silent route like most EVs, the company is engineering the Elettrica to sound more like a traditional supercar without using fake engine noises. A high-precision sensor picks up the mechanical vibrations of the powertrain components, which are then amplified to create a real aural experience that reflects the dynamic driving feel and gives the driver natural feedback.
This approach is clearly meant for car enthusiasts who love the roar of a Ferrari engine. Personally, I like the quiet hum of a Tesla or Polestar. But I get it—if you’re dropping nearly $600,000 on a Ferrari, you want it to sound like one.
The Ferrari Elettrica is set to launch in late 2026, marking a major milestone for the Italian automaker. It’s Ferrari’s first fully electric car, and from what we’ve seen so far, it’s shaping up to be a bold mix of old-school passion and next-gen innovation.
