Another year, another shiny iPhone. Apple just pulled back the curtain on the iPhone 17 at its “Awe Dropping” event, and as expected, it’s the most advanced iPhone yet.

Of course, that’s always the case—every new model promises a little more polish, a little more power. The real question is: is the iPhone 17 actually worth the price tag? If you’re already rocking an iPhone 15 or 16, probably not. But if you’ve got cash to spare or your current phone is on its last leg, the iPhone 17 might be tempting. Let’s take a look at what Apple’s newest smartphone brings to the table.

ProMotion Tech Makes Its iPhone Debut

If the name “ProMotion Tech” doesn’t ring a bell, don’t worry—it’s not brand-new, just new to the iPhone. Apple first rolled it out on the iPad in 2017, then the MacBook Pro in 2021. Now, for the first time, it’s coming to your pocket.

ProMotion lets the iPhone 17 adapt its refresh rate up to 120 Hz, which basically means buttery-smooth scrolling and much snappier gameplay. Pair that with a brighter display, and the screen feels like a major step up from earlier models.

Camera Upgrades (Because, of Course)

No iPhone launch would be complete without camera talk. The main camera hasn’t changed much for everyday shots, but the ultrawide lens is where things get exciting. It’s jumping from 12 MP to a crisp 48 MP—so wide-angle shots should look a whole lot sharper.

Selfie lovers aren’t left out either: the front-facing camera has been tweaked for better sharpness and clarity.

Pricing and Options

Here’s the breakdown:

  • iPhone 17: $799
  • iPhone 17 Air: $999
  • iPhone 17 Pro: $1,099

Apple’s Air model might be the sweet spot this year, packing in several Pro-level features without the Pro-level price.

Color-wise, you’ll get five choices: dark gray, green, lavender, light blue, and silver-white.

Pre-orders kick off September 12, and the official release is September 19.

So, is it worth upgrading? That depends on your wallet—and your current phone’s battery life.
