According to Musk, the inaugural recipient of the implant, known as Telepathy, is recovering well, with early indications pointing to promising neuron spike detection.

While the identity of the test subject remains undisclosed, Musk disclosed the device’s nomenclature and highlighted Neuralink’s targeted recruitment of volunteers with quadriplegia, specifically those afflicted with ALS or spinal cord injuries. The overarching objective is to facilitate enhanced interaction with the rapidly evolving technological landscape for individuals grappling with quadriplegia.

The envisioned application of this neural implant is to enable seamless wireless connectivity between the brain and external devices, such as smartphones and tablets.
