If you’ve been wondering where your gamer friends disappeared to, they’re not missing; they’re just deep into the world of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PlayStation 5. This highly anticipated game swung into action on October 20th and immediately took the gaming world by storm.
Sony Interactive Entertainment recently announced that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 sold a staggering 2.5 million copies within just 24 hours of its release, making it the fastest-selling game in PlayStation Studios’ history. The game was a collaborative effort between Insomniac Games, PlayStation Studios, and Marvel Games.
Eric Lempel, Senior VP of Global Marketing, Sales, and Business Operations at Sony Interactive Entertainment, commented on Insomniac Games’ commitment to delivering engaging and innovative gaming experiences. He explained, “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is Insomniac Games’ third installment in the franchise for PlayStation. Built from the ground up to take advantage of the unique features of the PlayStation 5, the goal was to massively build off the action, storylines, and features from the first two games.”
And indeed, they achieved this with what many are hailing as a gaming masterpiece. The game opens up a vast world, primarily New York City, where players can swing through the endless cityscapes of Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn, either as Spider-Man (Peter Parker) or Spider-Man (Miles Morales). You can even take on missions as Mary Jane Watson or Venom.
These are the same studios that brought us Marvel’s Spider-Man in 2018 and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales in 2020, so it’s no surprise that they’ve once again hit it out of the park. They retained what worked in the previous titles and expanded upon it. This is precisely what a sequel should look and feel like.
