Airbnb Finally Fixes One of Its Most Annoying Problems

For years, Airbnb users have complained about one big issue: not knowing the full cost of a stay until the very end of the booking process. What starts out looking like an affordable rental can suddenly jump by hundreds—or even thousands—of dollars once all the extra fees are added in. Think cleaning fees, service charges, and more. It’s kind of like ordering a $10 salad on Uber Eats and ending up with a $37 bill.

While it’s expected that taxes get added at checkout, many people are frustrated by not seeing the full price upfront. That frustration may finally be over.

Airbnb just announced that it will now show the total price of a listing—including all fees but before taxes—right from the start. No more clicking through multiple pages to find out what you’re really paying. This change is live starting today.

According to Airbnb, this pricing format was already available in countries like Australia, Canada, Europe, and Korea. But in the U.S., it was only an optional setting—and many people didn’t even know it existed. Now, total pricing will be the default for everyone.

Airbnb has always walked a fine line between keeping both guests and hosts happy. And while hiding fees may have helped hosts secure bookings in the short term, it likely hurt trust in the platform overall. Making pricing more transparent is a smart move—for everyone.

The new feature is rolling out globally now.
