Ring Introduces 24/7 Recording for Wired Cameras with New Premium Plan

Ring cameras are everywhere these days, but they’ve had a big limitation compared to local-storage security cameras used in large businesses: they only capture short clips when motion is detected or during live viewing. That’s changing now, as Ring is adding 24/7 recording.

With this new feature, wired cameras can record continuously, capturing everything, even outside of motion zones. According to Eric Kuhn, General Manager of Ring Subscriptions and Experience, this gives a better understanding of what’s happening around your home or business.

This feature is available only with the top-tier plan, Ring Home Premium, which costs $19.99 a month. It provides cloud storage for all-day, all-night recordings for up to 10 cameras, which will be overwritten after 14 days. That’s a lot of coverage—1,176 hours of video—letting you keep track of everything happening on your property. Motion-activated clips will still be saved for 180 days.

Right now, 24/7 recording is only available on certain models: the Pan-Tilt Indoor camera, the second-gen Indoor Cam, and both the Stick Up Cam and Stick Up Cam Pro. Doorbell cameras and battery-powered models aren’t included yet, as these are wired-only cameras, but Ring plans to expand availability soon.

Battery-powered models will still be limited to motion detection and live view recordings. However, Ring is improving Live View: with the Standard plan, users can now watch up to 30 minutes of video instead of the previous 10-minute limit. Premium Plan users get even more, though the exact limit hasn’t been specified.

These new features will start rolling out soon and will be available worldwide by November 5th.
