Microsoft is rolling out a new feature in the Bing app that lets users create AI-generated videos—for free. The tool, called Bing Video Creator, is built on OpenAI’s Sora model and is now available to anyone with a Microsoft account.
All you have to do is type a short text prompt, and the AI will turn it into a 5-second video. You can make up to 10 clips for free. After that, each additional video will cost you 100 Microsoft Rewards points—something you can earn by using Bing to search or shopping through the Microsoft Store. For example, a simple Bing search earns you 5 points, with a daily cap of 150 points. That means once you use up your 10 free videos, you can still make about one video a day, depending on how many points you collect.
The process isn’t instant, though. Rendering a video may take several hours, but you can queue up to three videos at a time.
Right now, Bing Video Creator is only available on the Bing mobile app for iPhone and Android. Microsoft says desktop support is on the way, but there’s no release date yet.
This move makes a lot of sense. Microsoft has invested heavily in OpenAI and is likely trying to give people more reasons to use Bing. Plus, this is currently the only way to access Sora’s video creation tools without paying for OpenAI’s premium plan, which costs $20 a month.
In short: If you’re curious about AI video creation and want to try it out for free, Bing’s mobile app just became a good place to start.
