Call of Duty Black Ops 7 Brings Back Co-Op

In a surprise reveal at this year’s Xbox Games Showcase, Microsoft officially announced Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Fans were caught off guard—not because the game wasn’t expected, but because it’s arriving right after last year’s Black Ops 6. It’s rare to see back-to-back releases in the same Call of Duty subseries.

Usually, the franchise alternates between titles like Modern Warfare, Vanguard, or other storylines before circling back to Black Ops. But this time, the team has broken tradition—and we’re all wondering why. Is this a smaller filler release or a full-scale sequel? So far, details are limited.

What We Know About Black Ops 7

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is set in the year 2035 and brings back a familiar face: David Mason. He was the lead in Black Ops II and returned briefly in Black Ops 4. This time, the character will be played by actor Milo Ventimiglia, known for his roles in Heroes and This Is Us.

Mason now leads a special-ops team taking on a mysterious and manipulative enemy. While that sounds a lot like previous storylines, it’s rumored that this new villain may be linked to The Guild and Raul Menendez—names longtime fans will recognize.

The game’s timeline jumps 40 years ahead from Black Ops 6 and is said to directly follow the events of Black Ops II, which remains one of the franchise’s most popular entries.

A Fan-Favorite Feature Returns

One major upgrade fans will appreciate: Black Ops 7 brings back the co-op campaign mode, which was notably absent in the last release. That alone could make it a must-play for players who love teaming up with friends for story missions.

Where You’ll Be Able to Play It

Black Ops 7 will launch on a wide range of platforms including:

  • Xbox Series X/S
  • Xbox One
  • PlayStation 4 and 5
  • Xbox PC, Battle.net, and Steam

While no official release date has been shared, it’s confirmed for 2025. A version for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 could be possible, though it hasn’t been confirmed yet.
