For over a decade, Apple has released new iPhones every fall—usually between September and November. This tradition began with the iPhone 4S and has continued like clockwork, even through global disruptions like the COVID-19 pandemic. The only exceptions have been the occasional spring release of their budget-friendly iPhone SE models.
But that long-standing schedule may be changing in 2026.
According to a report from The Information, Apple plans to shift its release timeline. In fall 2026, only the Pro models of the iPhone 18 will launch. The regular iPhone 18 and a new budget model are expected to arrive later—likely in spring 2027. If true, this would be the first major shake-up to Apple’s iPhone launch strategy in years.
Why the change? It may be Apple’s way of making room for a growing product lineup. Rumors suggest the tech giant is developing a foldable iPhone, one that could open up into a device closer in size to an iPad mini. While Apple hasn’t confirmed anything yet, insiders believe the company is hard at work on this next-gen phone.
If everything rumored pans out, Apple could release as many as six new iPhones between late 2026 and early 2027. While that means more options for customers, it could also make it harder for shoppers to decide which model is right for them.
For now, Apple is sticking to the usual plan. Expect the iPhone 17 lineup to launch in fall 2025, right on schedule.
