Sony is set to release its next-generation console, the PS5 Pro, on November 7th. Instead of launching a completely new PlayStation 6, Sony is building on the success of the PlayStation 5, which debuted over four years ago. The PS5 Pro enhances the features of its predecessor, delivering significant upgrades.

“It’s the most powerful console we’ve ever built,” said Mark Cerny, Lead Architect of the PS5 at Sony, in a recent tech presentation. This isn’t just marketing hype; it’s the core reason behind the PS5 Pro’s development.

The console boasts a boosted GPU with 67% more Compute Units and 28% faster memory than the original PS5, making it the most powerful PlayStation yet. This means smoother and more immersive gameplay, especially for graphics-intensive titles. Ray tracing capabilities have also been significantly upgraded, providing more dynamic reflections and light refractions, with double or even triple the ray casting of the standard PS5.

A standout feature of the PS5 Pro is its AI-driven upscaling technology called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution. This technology leverages AI to enhance resolution in real-time, delivering sharper and clearer images during gameplay.

However, these enhancements come with a price. The PS5 Pro is priced at $699.99, a substantial jump from the current PS5’s $499.99. Notably, this version of the console is digital-only, without a disc tray, reflecting Sony’s confidence in the appeal of their upgraded model despite the higher cost.

Preorders for the PS5 Pro open on September 26th, with the console officially hitting the shelves on November 7th.
