Apple has just introduced a new feature in the iOS beta called Distraction Control, which came as a surprise since it wasn’t mentioned at the WWDC or anywhere else. This feature is designed to make browsing on Safari much more pleasant by eliminating the annoying things you encounter online.
Distraction Control helps you avoid forced pop-ups, sign-in windows, and other annoying elements that clutter your screen and ruin your browsing experience. If you’ve ever struggled with websites that bombard you with graphics or try to redirect you, you’ll appreciate this new feature.
To use Distraction Control, simply go to the Safari search field, scroll down to “Hide Distracting Items,” and turn it on. Once activated, you’ll see a “hide” prompt on ads, autoplay videos, and cookie preference windows. Just tap it, and the distraction will vanish.
It’s important to note that this feature is not a permanent ad blocker. It’s meant to reduce distractions while you’re browsing. Apple clarifies that “Hiding distracting items will not permanently remove ads and other content that update frequently.”
Currently, Distraction Control is in beta, but it’s expected to be included in the public release of iOS 18 later this year.
