Emulators are becoming more advanced and are now available on more than just PCs. With Apple easing its restrictions on emulators in the App Store, mobile options are increasing.
Recently, a PlayStation 1 emulator was released on the App Store. The free Gamma app lets users play old PS1 games directly on their iPhone or iPad. Within days, Gamma has already become one of the top 10 apps in the Entertainment category.
Gamma includes features that make playing on your iPhone easier, such as Bluetooth support for controllers or keyboards instead of using the on-screen pad.
While the original PlayStation had limited save options, Gamma allows you to sync your progress to Google Drive or Dropbox. This way, you can back up your game files and save states, letting you continue from where you left off.
However, you’ll need to buy and import your own games into the Gamma app because Apple’s rules prohibit developers from providing games they don’t own. This means any emulator on the App Store won’t come with games included.
