We’re in a cool time for virtual reality, where tech is making it feel like you’re really in another world. Disney just made something super cool called HoloTile. It’s like a special floor that lets you walk around in VR without feeling weird.
Usually, when you walk in VR, it’s like you’re moving, but your body is just sitting or standing. Some people tried fixing this with treadmill things, but they didn’t work so well. Now, HoloTile is here to fix that!
Instead of a whole floor moving, it’s a bunch of small tiles that act like tiny treadmills. They make sure you stay on the floor, no matter which way you walk. This way, you won’t bump into walls or furniture in your cool VR world.
A guy named Lanny Smoot, who works for Disney and is in the Inventors Hall of Fame, came up with this idea. You can watch a video about it here: [insert video link].
What’s really cool is that lots of people can use it at the same time, all walking in their own way. It’s not just for VR—maybe we’ll see it in Disney parks or even in movies!
Disney owns the idea, but we’re not sure when or where we’ll get to use HoloTile. They might share it with other companies like Meta or Sony, or maybe they’ll sell it by itself. The tricky part is making it work with other VR stuff.
Either way, Lanny Smoot made something awesome, and now he has over 100 cool inventions. He’s a big deal in the Inventors Hall of Fame!
