Betting Texas talked to 1,000 registered voters in Texas, all 18 and up, and found out that 67.39% of them are all for making sports betting legal. That’s a big thumbs up from the public!
Different Ages, Different Thoughts
Guess what? Younger folks are super into the idea. About 69.25% of 18-24 year-olds, 74.99% of 25-34 year-olds, and a whopping 78.65% of 35-44 year-olds are all for it. But as people get older, the support goes down a bit, with 68.65% for 45-54 year-olds and 53.65% for those 55 and up.
Challenges and What Comes Next
Here’s the deal: even though most people want sports betting to be legal, there are some obstacles. The Texas Legislature meets every other year, and the latest session ended on May 29, 2023. They tried passing some bills to get sports betting on the November 2023 ballot, but it hit a snag. Don’t worry, though – there’s another shot in January 2025. Lawmakers have time to think it over again, and with the big support from the public and potential money gains, sports betting could still be a go!
